A visit to a Safari Park, Talent Show and Guest Speakers have kept ORA students at LMH entertained this week, whilst Sports Day, Homework Club and an ice cream truck have provided outlets for fun and study.
ORA’s Got Talent
There was an abundance of incredible and surprising skills from ORA students at LMH this week, as they performed in ORA’s Got Talent.
An afternoon of forming groups and practising ensured that everyone was prepared for the exciting evening ahead. Once students were seated in the auditorium, the evening began and revealed a variety of creative hidden talents.
Some showed off their singing voices and instrumental skills, whilst others performed gymnastics and group dances. It was amazing to see the different types of activities that everybody decided to undertake, with groups welcoming anyone that wanted to join and ensuring to include each other. An evening of laughter and teamwork meant that everyone fell asleep very quickly that night!
Cotswold Safari Park Excursion
Pupils were whizzed off to enjoy the wildlife at the Cotswold Safari Park this week, in an effort to give them a break from their hard work.
Meerkats, penguins, red pandas and monkeys captivated the group as they embarked on their exotic journey around the Park. Most students fell in love with the fluffy meerkats and laughed at the human-like monkeys, but some were skeptical about the lizards and snakes, quickly walking past the tanks and gazing at the cuter creatures.
Lots of photos were taken and souvenirs bought to ensure everyone remembered the thrilling day before the bus home gave students the chance to rest.
Sports Day
A joint Sports Day with Jowett Walk revealed the competitive nature of pupils at LMH. Loudly cheering each other on, students ran, skipped and jogged around the makeshift race track, as well as excitedly participating in the egg and spoon and three-legged races.
The competition was fierce and there was no lack of promising athletes from both teams. The chance to run around outside in the sun was a welcome break for all students, who have been working hard during the week on their assignments.
Homework Club
Assignments are coming along nicely at LMH, with the Homework Club providing a productive atmosphere for pupils to work efficiently. Set in the beautiful hall of LMH, students grabbed their notebooks and laptops and quietly got to work.
Guest Speakers
Fascinating talks from Emily Penn and Phillipa Stewart captivated ORA students at LMH earlier in the week and gave them new perspectives on the world we live in.
Emily Penn raises awareness for our oceans, studying environmental challenges and the impact climate change has had across the globe. In her talk, Emily highlighted the key issues facing oceans, focusing heavily on sea level rise and pollution, suggesting ways in which we can reduce the damage to these amazing areas.
Phillipa Stewart, on the other hand, is an adventurer and journalist, scouring the globe for untold stories that she can reveal to the world. Phillipa spoke about her past trips, including an expedition to be the first team to paddle the entire Essequibo River, and informed students about what motivates her in life.
Both talks were different but equally invaluable in the messages they displayed about the world and pupils left busily discussing the topics among themselves.
Ice Cream Truck
As a reward for their hard work this week, ORA students at LMH had a pleasant surprise from the arrival of an ice cream truck. Squeezed full of delicious cones, ice lollies and sweet drinks, there was a huge choice and everyone was quick to queue up for a yummy treat.
The week is rapidly coming to an end and soon we say goodbye to ORA students at LMH. Graduation tonight promises to be a night of laughter and fun, so check back soon to read all about it.
