Lessons and workshops have preoccupied ORA students at Jowett Walk during week 2, but they still had time to explore some English culture and history.
Blenheim Palace
An excursion to the architecturally impressive Blenheim Palace was a captivating experience for ORA students at Jowett Walk.
Exploring the 18th century Palace, constructed by John Churchill, first Duke of Marlborough, pupils got a taste of what life was like for a member of the aristocracy in the England of the past. The ornate and impressive Palace is a triumph of art and architecture, packed full of incredible artefacts and paintings.
Pupils particularly admired the breathtaking murals around the Great Hall, depicting the triumphant Duke and other notable members of society at the time. Also featuring intricate marble carvings, designed and created by the master sculptor Grinling Gibbons, students appreciated the vast amount of beautiful art throughout the Palace.
After they had thoroughly explored inside the Palace and taken lots of photos as they did so, students went outside to marvel at the gorgeous lakes and fountains, as well as admire the views over the English countryside. The cool breeze and warm sun created the perfect weather for a wander around the parkland and students returned to Oxford refreshed and knowledgeable about some of England’s history.
Check back soon to see what else ORA students at Jowett Walk get up to in their final week.
