ORA students at Balliol have had a go at debating this week, as well as being rewarded with frozen treats.
ORA Great Debate
It didn’t take long for ORA pupils at Balliol to get involved with the ORA Great Debate this week. Hosted in the famous Sheldonian Theatre, colleges came together to listen to guest speakers and join in with a fascinating debate.
Focusing on trophy hunting, the debate discussed whether it was ethical to carry out such practices and the impact it could have on conservation. Students made a multitude of interesting and innovative points for both sides and many audience members were keen to have their say.
The Debate was a great success. Students from all over ORA courses showcased their best debating skills and challenged traditional ways of thinking. Staff were particularly impressed with the audience participation, noting the intriguing input made by students who were not on the stage.
Ice Cream
As a reward for all their hard work during the Session so far, pupils at Balliol were treated to a visit from an ice cream van. With lavishly decorating cones, slushies and ice creams, students were quick to order the most outrageously sweet treats they could find. It was a well-deserved reward and a cooling snack in the warm weather.
Week 2 has already encouraged lots of learning and activities at Balliol, so stay tuned to hear what else ORA students get up to during the week.
