Session 5 has welcomed a new batch of ORA students to Lady Margaret Hall, who have wasted no time getting involved in icebreaker games and Masterclasses.
Icebreakers
Icebreakers are a great way to get all the new arrivals chatting and having fun together. ORA students at LMH were no exception in Session 5, as everyone nervously gathered in their home for the next two weeks, eager to make friends.
The games were amusing and the sound of laughter echoed around the Quad. It was wonderful that so many students took the initiative to welcome those who were quieter into the fold, encouraging them to feel confident and enjoy the evening.
Though they had only known each other for a few hours, the icebreakers proved a successful way to get everybody feeling included and smiling happily, excited for the weeks ahead.
Masterclasses
The Happening History Masterclass was especially popular with ORA students at LMH, who were eager to gain historical knowledge through object demonstrations made in the style of the past. The fact that pupils were able to see such realistic replicas of historical objects made the class exciting and provided a practical learning experience.
The CSI Masterclass revealed our true detectives as students donned their protective clothing, glasses and gloves. Dressed for the part, pupils carefully entered the crime scene, stepping over the yellow tape, and began investigating to solve the murder. Dusting for prints, bagging evidence and even taking photographs ensured that no stone was left unturned as the case came closer and closer to being solved, with the mystery inches away from revealing itself. Finally, having analysed the samples and discussed the evidence, the students solved the murder and sent the villain packing.
The last Masterclass option was the Hollywood Pitch class. The Hollywood Pitch is the notion that screenwriters have to be able to effectively sell their plays and stories in order for them to make it to the big screen. In this workshop, students worked to transform their imaginative stories into blockbuster films and pitched them to the class – all in under two minutes! The results were impressive and showed an impressive depth of imagination and enthusiasm.
A wizard-themed party and a trip to Drayton Manor & Zoo are planned for ORA pupils at LMH this week so check back soon to see all the photos and hear more of their news.
