ORA students at St Catharine’s College have been enjoying lots of games so far in Session 5, including sporty activities outside and board games inside.
Ball Games
Games of football, frisbee and rounders took place this week, as students at St Catharine’s decided to spend some time in the sun.
Those wanting to release some energy opted to play a fast game of football, zooming around the park and scoring goals with their teammates. Others wanted a more relaxing afternoon and decided to play a chilled game of rounders, simply taking it in turns to bowl and bat. A couple of students went rogue and grabbed a frisbee to throw around crazily, dipping into the games of football and rounders as they went.
Spending time outdoors was enjoyed by staff and students alike and was a great chance for everybody to bond.
Board Games
Inside, board and card games were underway and keeping students busy with friendly rivalry and tense moves.
Monopoly exposed friendships as students went head-to-head to buy as many properties and collect as much rent as possible during the board game session. Most pupils had played the tense game before, but those who were new to playing were brought up to speed by counsellors before the game begun and the property market opened.
Other pupils opted to play the more risky Poker, but don’t worry – they only used chips! Some paired up with people who had little experience of the game and bettered their chances of becoming card kings, whilst others went it alone to gain independent glory. With a counsellor playing the role of the dealer and helping everyone refine their technique, it was a challenging game requiring logic and luck. Everyone had an amusing time calling bluffs and trying to outwit their peers.
The next few days see pupils visit the Botanical Gardens, get cosy for a movie night and gaze at artefacts in the famous Fitzwilliam Museum. Be sure to keep an eye on the blog page for more updates.
