We catch up with the last bit of news from ORA’s Session 4 at Queen’s and dive straight into Session 5 as we hear how our new arrivals have been getting on.
Punting – Session 4
Whilst in Oxford, our Session 4 students studying at Queen’s College decided to have a go at punting, a famous English pastime.
Taking to the gorgeous River Cherwell, pupils at Queen’s College had a go at punting in the sun. With staff showing them the ropes (before lying leisurely in the boats!) students quickly got the hang of things as they pushed their punts down the river.
The beautiful foliage on the river banks provided much-needed shade as the group drifted in the warm sun. Wildlife joined our students in the wonderful weather and watched as pupils tried their hardest to race each other down the river. With ducks and dragonflies lazily passing, it was a great opportunity for everyone to have some fun in the sun and take lots of pictures. Those with an eye for plants also enjoyed identifying the foliage as they drifted alongside the riverbank.
With some near misses as boats almost collided and lots of loud laughter, the afternoon went by in a flash.
Art and Architecture Field Trip – Session 5
As they strolled around the beautiful city of Oxford, our new arrivals enjoyed learning about the different elements of art and architecture throughout the city.
The age-old architecture amazed students as they posed beneath the iconic Bridge of Sighs and explored the new uses of some traditional buildings, such as the delicious Malmaison restaurant. To see some of the oldest architecture, pupils also visited Oxford Castle and saw the medieval mound where the original structure sat, as well as the more modern building.
The trip was fascinating and it was great to see such high levels of interest from those taking part. Of course, the opportunity for photos wasn’t missed, as snaps were frantically taken throughout the excursion.
