It’s full steam ahead for ORA students at Merton College in Session 5, as they visit the Bodleian Library and The Varsity Club.
Bodleian Library Induction
ORA students at Merton gathered in the Convocation House for their Bodleian Library Induction early in week 1 of Session 5. Entering this iconic, world-famous landmark was thrilling to our pupils, many of whom couldn’t help but marvel at the spectacular architecture.
Led by a librarian, students were then taught how to access, search for and handle the literature in the Bodleian, being reminded about the rare manuscripts held within. The importance of the Library was not lost on our students, who noted the lack of public access when they entered. It was an incredible opportunity and one that pupils won’t be forgetting any time soon.
Oxford Tour and The Varsity Club
The opportunity to explore Oxford was seized by students as they embarked on a counsellor-led tour around the historic city. They strolled past iconic sites like the Radcliffe Camera and Bridge of Sighs, whilst they were amazed by the College architecture and recognised the beautiful Bodleian Library.
After soaking up the famous landmarks of Oxford, students took a well-deserved trip to The Varsity Club, a rooftop bar offering sky-high views over the city. Enjoying a drink or two gave everyone the chance to unwind and chat, getting to know each other more as they looked over Oxford from above.
Alongside extensive time for studying and classes, the next week sees ORA students at Merton go on a field trip and hear from guest speakers. Check back soon to hear about how they get on.
