Week 3 may be over for ORA students at SMA, but there is still lots to reflect on from the last few days.
Art Class
The opportunity to be creative was presented to ORA pupils at SMA this week as they tried their hand at painting and colouring. Some copied hazy skylines, a few went for dramatic waves and others painted island maps.
The variety of subjects was impressive, as was the exceptional artistic talent displayed by students. We loved the abstract approach of some pupils, choosing exciting colours to liven up their creations, and enjoyed the precision of others, who liked to stay true to the image they were copying.
Rhyming Classes
Creativity continued to flow at SMA as ORA pupils participated in rhyming classes. Worksheet activities warmed up the rhyming juices as students looked at a series of pictures and worked out what the images showed and if the two words rhymed. It was a challenging activity that tested both students’ knowledge of English and their ability to hear rhymes.
It was great to see so many pupils working together to aid those who found the activity more difficult. This level of teamwork is integral in teaching students essential skills for the future. Having completed the worksheet, pupils then went to the front of the class to put their answers on the board and find out how talented they were in rhyming.
Food Tasting
A class including food tasting was a delicious treat for ORA pupils at SMA. With popcorn, sweets, biscuits and passion fruit tickling students’ taste buds, it was an exciting class full of new flavours and foods.
After trying the foods, students had to complete a task describing how they tasted. with choices such as sweet, savoury, spicy and sour, pupils really had to test their knowledge in order to describe the flavours.
Fun and Games
Badminton games were rife in the sun during Week 3, as everyone came together to participate in friendly activities. Alongside sports, students also enjoyed lounging in the sun together completing assignments, with many using laptops and sharing screens. Snacking was also a popular pastime this week, as pupils gathered together in the sun to share their popcorn and sweet treats.
Graduation
As Week 3 drew to a close, we waved goodbye to some of our ORA students at SMA. With certificates in hand and applause heard, the Graduation ceremony quickly moved to a delicious dinner, where pupils feasted like kings to celebrate their achievements. A party in the evening topped off the perfect ORA experience, with many taking the chance to exchange phone numbers and emails in order to stay in contact in the future.
Though their time with ORA has come to an end, we hope that many students who stayed at SMA will return next year for another exciting summer.
