Week 2 has proved to be full of new experiences and skills for ORA students at St Catherine’s, as they learnt how to dissect animal organs and participated in the Great Debate.

Dissection

Students got grizzly in their Dissection class this week, investigating the inner workings of animal hearts. Equipped with scalpels, scissors, knives and tweezers, pupils donned their protective lab coats, gloves and glasses with pride as they approached the operating tables.

It didn’t take long for everyone to adjust to the idea of dissecting hearts and eyes and they quickly became acquainted with the vessels, arteries and chambers they had learnt about beforehand. With everyone settled at their individual workstations, the class began and students were taught how to properly cut, slice and remove sections of the organ, staring in amazement at the intricacy of the inner body.

Many pupils had never had the chance to dissect anything before and so the experience proved to be intriguing if a little unnerving. Everyone gave it their best efforts, however, and some remarked at the amazing anatomy of the eye and the extraordinary colours they discovered as they removed each layer.

ORA Great Debate

One of the most exciting activities of Session 4 was the ORA Great Debate, that combined logic with public speaking skills and got everybody pitching in with their ideas. To read more about this successful event, click here.

ORA pupils studying at St Catherine’s have lots more in store this week, including a trip to London to watch ‘The Comedy About A Bank Robbery’, arts and crafts workshops and finally Graduation, so keep an eye out for more updates.
