Week 2 has challenged ORA students at University College to eat lots of crackers, create investment ideas and test their debating skills.
Extreme Games
Some team building activities this week saw students staying at University College taking part in some extreme bonding games, including the cracker challenge. Pupils took turns competing against each other to eat as many crackers as possible within a time frame, causing lots of laughs and crumbs flying everywhere.
With cameras at the ready, action shots were in abundant supply as some students raced to engulf as many crackers as they could, much to the amusement of spectators.
Dragon’s Den
After the excitement of the Extreme Games, pupils formed small groups to participate in the Dragon’s Den competition. Creating inventions, novel ideas or a fresh take on an existing product, students attempted to sell their concepts to a panel of ‘investors’ or Dragons, who would challenge their business strategy and ask potentially difficult questions.
With the aim of the activity to secure adequate funding to start producing their idea, our pupils created a series of diagrams, graphs and other visual aids to prove the importance of their concept. It was great to see how engaged students were and how committed they became to selling their inventions. Some lucky groups wowed the Dragons and secured theoretical funding, whilst some received significant interest but no financial aid.
The imagination in the challenge was impressive and staff enjoyed hearing what everyone had come up with and why they thought it was important, with consistently thorough research being shown.
ORA Great Debate
ORA pupils at University joined in with the ORA Great Debate this week, testing their argumentative skills and abilities to stay calm under pressure. Read more about this exciting event here.
ORA students at University have lots to look forward to in their final week, such as ORA’s Got Talent, lots of lessons and punting. Check back soon to find out how they got on!
