The end of week 1 and start of week 2 have been full of history and tradition for ORA students studying at St Peter’s College.

Windsor Castle

Still used by the Queen today, Windsor castle was built in the 12th Century by William the Conqueror following his invasion of Britain. The Castle’s expansive history is fascinating and ongoing, highlighted by the recent wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in St George’s Chapel. As well as modern history, the Castle was a prominent building in the past. Many notable monarchs are buried in St George’s Chapel, including Henry VIII, Charles I, Edward VII and George V.

With so much history seeping from the Castle walls, students were able to learn all about different eras and the changes they bought to the site. The array of weapons and armour caught the attention of our young knights, whilst the largest dolls’ house in the world – Queen Mary’s Doll’s House – amazed those with an eye for detail. The visit was informative and eye-opening, giving pupils an insight into past British life.

Punting

In the spirit of experiencing all things British, pupils boarded punts in the river to have a go at boating like people have done since the late 19th Century. The sunny weather made the day an enjoyable one as students took it in turns to punt the boats. The wildlife on the river was a highlight for ORA students at St Peter’s, who were keen to know all the names of the species. It was a learning experience all round as the pupils floated off down the river as they engaged with the famous British tradition.

Yoga

A delightful evening this week inspired students to participate in a sunset yoga class in the park. Raring to go with their mats unrolled and minds relaxed, pupils had a calming evening finding inner peace as they unwound and stretched in the warm sun.
