ORA pupils at Jowett Walk have had an exciting and exhausting week thus far, with a visit to Warwick Castle, a picnic and lots of sports.
Warwick Castle
A visit to one of England’s prize possessions was in store for ORA students staying at Jowett Walk this week, as they entered into the turbulent and age-old history of Warwick Castle.
With the first castle standing on this site as early as 1068, built by the famous William the Conqueror, it has seen almost 11 centuries of life. From sieges and fires to bloody murders and executions, the Castle’s history is certainly a fascinating one and has played a central role in many events since its initial construction.
Students wandered around the vast stone Castle in awe, screeching in the dingy dungeons, gasping at the impressive architecture and marvelling at the riveting stories.
Pupils were also fortunate enough to visit the Castle during the ‘Wars of the Roses Live’ event. The famous Wars, sparked by rivalries between the House of York and House of Lancaster in the 15th Century, were bought to life at this awesome event, featuring live jousts, fights and stunts. As lances collided and swords clashed, students were encouraged to choose either the Yorkist white rose or Lancastrian red rose to support their champions.
The excursion was exhilarating and ensured that students got a real taste of what life was like at the castle throughout the centuries, whilst the jousting and fighting revealed our very own brave knights who were hypnotised by the events.
Picnic and Sports
Pupils also had a pleasantly relaxing afternoon in the warm sun as they picnicked and enjoyed some games in the sun. Complete with delicious mocktails and yummy snacks, students enjoyed crunching on crisps and popcorn before cooling down with refreshing ice creams in the hot weather.
We particularly loved the Jowett Walk Picnic frame that students and staff created, providing a perfect photo setting wherever it went! Check out some of the great snaps below.
As well as feasting on the grass, pupils amused themselves with a series of games including basketball and rounders. Releasing their sugary energy was a lot of fun as students whizzed around the field, scoring goals and rounders as they went, laughing in the gorgeous sunshine.
With punting, ORA’s Got Talent and Graduation all looming on the horizon check back soon to hear more about ORA students at Jowett Walk.
