ORA students at University College have had an exhilarating first week with workshops, excursions and punting, leading to a nice and relaxed evening watching Life of Brian. This Monty Python classic got a lot of laughs as students came together to relax.
Theatre Workshop
During the week, the theatre workshop was a popular class that taught performance skills and techniques to adapt to different characters. With a newfound sense of confidence, the pupils were quick to explore the tips and tricks they were shown, impressed at the simple yet effective hints.
With lots of group activities, the workshop was a great opportunity for everyone to socialise with each other whilst learning valuable performance skills. Each activity revolved around a theme central to acting, with some encouraging individuals to step forward into the centre of the group circle to perform what they had learnt.
Face Paint
With the arrival of face paint at University, no one was safe. Bright colours transformed students and staff alike into tigers, foxes, dragons and some slightly more ambiguous creatures! Students grabbed paintbrushes with ambitious ideas and attempted to carry them out on their unsuspecting peers. The results were wide-ranging, with artistic students showing their imagination and skill and others enjoying creating abstract masterpieces.
The staff were quick to become canvases and wore their face paint with pride, much to the amusement of students. No chance for a good photo was missed, as you can see below.
Cake Decorating
ORA students staying at University weren’t finished with their creating yet, as they settled down to decorate cupcakes. With swirly icing, M&Ms, sprinkles and delicious sauces, the cupcakes came to life with colour and our student artists once again made themselves known.
Symmetrical and pre-designed cupcakes were clear, sticking to colour schemes and organised patterns, whilst more spontaneous examples showed explosions of colour and layout, creating vibrant cupcakes. Though the styles differed, they all tasted amazing and everyone enjoyed tucking into their creations.
