Ghost Tour
ORA students staying at Queen’s in Oxford have had a spooky start to their stay with a Ghost Tour around Oxford city centre. Hearing all about the ghastly ghouls, prancing phantoms and scary spectres gave students an insight into the long history of Oxford and there were definitely a few jumps at the tormenting tales! Guided by a local ghost guide, students embarked on a horrifying journey into the supernatural and discovered hauntings from over 900 years ago.
Christ Church College
Back in the earthly dimension, students had an art and architecture field trip to see Christ Church College, a part of the University of Oxford.
The tall spires and decorated walls mesmerised pupils and encouraged our budding photographers to take time trying to get the best shot. The tour generated significant interest in the University and we are keen to find out how many ORA students might one day study within these walls.
Creative Writing Tour
A Creative Writing Inklings walking tour gave imaginative students inspiration for their own works, experiencing places that have influenced major literary works including Jill and Gaudy Night. Known as the city of the Dreaming Spires, it is no wonder that so many novelists have found Oxford to be their muse, and we are certain that some of our students feel the same.
Punting
Alongside a tour of the most impressive sights in Oxford, students took to the river to try their hand at punting. The pleasant weather ensured an enjoyable afternoon and the students loved hearing about famous landmarks as they glided past them on the river. The chance to try punting themselves was a highlight, as they took control of their vessels and propelled their friends down the rivers. Some groups raced each other, testing their strength and steering abilities, whilst others preferred to lazily glide down the river.
T-Shirt Making and Fan-Powered Cars
To release some of their creativity, students at Queen’s participated in a T-shirt making activity. Making and designing their own shirts proved popular with our fashionistas, who were quick to perfect their creations. A Fan-Powered Cars Masterclass got logical thinkers going, as students were taught how to get the cars running using electrical engineering.
It was great to see such high levels of logic and artistic skill, something our Session 4 students at Queen’s have demonstrated throughout the first few days of their stay.
