The first few days at Lady Margaret Hall have been action-packed. Arrivals Day encouraged students to socialise during afternoon tea, mingling over scones and cake, before welcome talks introduced the key members of staff and some of the highlights for the coming weeks.
Quiz
Students then went head-to-head in the famous welcome quiz, proving their general knowledge skills and showing a healthy competitive streak. The quiz was a great opportunity for pupils to work as part of a team and get to know each other better, as they showcased their impressive topical knowledge.
Masterclasses
Masterclasses got off to a swinging start with Stage Combat, Theatre Workout, Stock Market Challenge and Journalism lessons. Each Masterclass offered students an in-depth lesson in theatre, journalism and business, allowing them to both refine and improve their skills.
The ability to perform mock combat on stage was an amusing skill to learn for those in the Stage Combat class. An informative demonstration provided the necessary skills needed to perform faux fights on stage before the students had the opportunity to try it for themselves. The group were talented, throwing fake punches and kicks convincingly without even touching their partners.
Elsewhere, the Theatre Workout Masterclass aimed to instil a sense of self-confidence into our budding actors and actresses. Useful tips on presence and posture ensured the group could stand with confidence on the stage, whilst a series of handy hints gave the students top skills for performing.
The final Masterclass was the Stock Market Challenge. This life simulation exposes pupils to the fast-paced world of the stock market, giving them imaginary shares to trade between the groups. With a board at the front of the marquee showing the fluctuating share prices, the groups must work quickly to formulate a trading strategy and try and make a profit from their trades.
With the sun shining down in England, ORA students at LMH enjoyed time exploring the site and playing in the grounds with new friends after their classes, making the most of their time in the prestigious college.
