What a fantastic end to the first week! Session 3 students have certainly settled into the classroom quickly, and had a jam-packed week of activities, excursions, lessons, and workshops – to name just a few – but the highlights have definitely included punting and parties over the weekend!
Across all of our campuses in Cambridge and Oxford, students have had the opportunity to try the traditional and quintessentially ‘Oxbridge’ pastime of punting. Punting – which is a type of river-boating that involves propelling your flat-bottomed boat with a long pole, which is pushed against the riverbed – is a great way to encourage teamwork, experience the beautiful surroundings of the cities and their colleges, and of course to have fun. With the glorious British summer sunshine continuing and temperatures soaring to almost 30 degrees, spending time on the water was a great way to cool down and enjoy the shade of the banks of the Cherwell and Cam respectively.
The words on everyone’s lips for Friday evening, however, were the parties. After a busy first week, the Friday evening parties provided great games, dancing, food and activities to give students a chance to unwind and relax, as well as to mark the halfway point for many students’ courses. Students staying at Jowett Walk joined students from LMH for a magical ‘Enchanted Forest’ party on a splendid summer’s evening, with activities including a rodeo bull challenge, bungee run, plenty of treats to eat, and a lot of dancing! For Yarnton Manor students, an evening of fine food at the iconic Randolph Hotel was in store for them in Oxford, with an added element of wizardry!
The parties in London at Imperial college, and also at Clare college in Cambridge, were equally filled with fun, with students trying out surfing on a surf machine at their Caribbean party in Cambridge!
The students have definitely been treated to a weekend of fun, but you can be sure that the enjoyment doesn’t stop there: keep checking in on our blogs to grab a piece of the action across all campuses for the rest of session 3.
