What an incredible week it has been for students attending Oxford Royale Academy at The Queen’s college in Oxford! The terrific British weather has certainly contributed to students’ experiences, meaning that they have enjoyed workshops, classes, sports, lessons and games outside and in the stunning grounds of The Queen’s college in the heart of Oxford.
Students at The Queen’s college participated in a Soap Science workshop in the beautiful college grounds on a sunny Tuesday afternoon. The workshop involved a brief overview of the chemistry behind soap-making (saponification) and the mechanism by which soaps remove dirt and grease, with students pitching their own ideas for soap products to the group and judges. It was a great way to combine problem-solving, science and creativity, and the students really enjoyed trying something a little bit different, and quite unlike anything they had done before.
Students have been making the most of the grounds and facilities at Queen’s college, spending evenings taking part in a wide range of activities – such as their own debate! Though only a week into their course, it is clear that lifelong friendships are being made. As well as a sunny afternoon spent punting, a highlight for the students was the Scrap Fashion Show- where students had to come up with the most ‘stylish’ outfit using only, well… scraps of material! Another great way to get students’ creative juices flowing and to have a lot of fun.
As always, plenty more extra-curricular activities and cultural visits await the students outside of class, including the end of week party!
