On all of our summer school programmes, after their morning lessons students enjoy organised activities, free time and evening entertainment.
The first week of Session 2 at Yarnton Manor has been packed with invaluable enrichment programmes and social activities.
Students had the chance this week to show off their skills at ping-pong, badminton, rounders, salsa classes, and of course punting! The quiz night on Tuesday was a huge success, and the questions really got their brains warmed up for the week of intellectually stimulating classes.
The world cup has also offered students the chance to show some patriotism, and to unwind after a hard day’s work of studying, as well as inspiring them to have a kick around for themselves on the back lawn, or even taking to basketball at the local courts in Yarnton.
As well as all the physical activity between classes, students visited the Museum of Natural History in London and experienced the collections in virtual reality! This experience mixed interactive video game technology and TV documentary. It was fantastic to see the students peering inside, tilting and looking closely through their virtual reality goggles at the objects, which include fossils, bones and skulls, with the well-known English broadcaster and naturalist, Sir David Attenborough as their ‘virtual’ personal guide.
Throughout the week, students can benefit from assignment support to further contribute to their academic progress, and despite the fun and games after classes, we still get conscientious students coming to work on their projects and assignments to make sure their work is top notch.
The words on everyone’s lips this week, however, are the neon party on Friday night! As with every summer school, students attend a fun party at the end of their first week of studying and cultural activities to have yet even more fun and to show off their singing and dancing skills- in preparation for the talent show next week. Tomorrow night’s party will round off the week nicely, with a neon party at the beautiful Oxford Town Hall in the heart of the city.
